Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity

Supporting under 5s with cerebral palsy and other motor learning disabilities.

Our early intervention service runs all year round and enables parents to see the potential their child has and also helps them to engage with and actively play with their child.  Our innovative and essential early intervention service follows the principles of Conductive Education and Early Years Foundation Stage.  It is delivered in partnership with parents to educate and help their child to develop physically, socially and emotionally, forming the bedrock of the independence they can achieve later in life.

We provide hands on active physical therapy sessions, outreach support in the home, Saturday and holiday clubs and access to a parent support network.  Children also have access to assistive technology, such as white boards, tablets and 'magic carpets'. We will also be offering creative workshops using assistive and sensory technology.

Since we began we have helped more than 500 families across the South East. No formal diagnosis or referral is required and families are welcome to drop into our centre and talk to our staff, who can support them in taking the next step to helping their child.

Our work, which is rooted in Conductive Education, celebrates the children we work with – no matter their ability – and shows parents and the wider world everything they can do.

At Dame Vera Lynn Children's Charity we know the positive impact that early intervention can have for very young children with cerebral palsy and other motor learning difficulties in giving them the best possible platform from which to grow, learn and develop.

We also offer our families additional services such as Outreach Support, Swimming sessions, Music Therapy sessions and Messy Play.  Our dedicated sensory room incorporates bubble tubes, magic carpet and interactive technology.  The Sensory room has special lighting, sound and equipment for our children to be able to explore tactile experiences, and improve their motor and communication skills.  At the flick of a switch or through a gesture, the Sensory room can transform from a calming and soothing environment, to an exciting and engaging interactive space full  of light and sound.

We receive no statutory funding and rely entirely on the community to help us to provide this free service to our families.
